In Turkey, the production of encaustic tiles began in the early 20th
century. They were used at old mansions and at the places which represented
Ottoman-Turkish architectures. Moreover, the cement tiles were also used at a
lot of Greek houses. However, the encaustic tiles have lost its popularity in
the second half of the 20th century. By 2000s, they become very popular again
and the cement tiles are indispensable for the nostalgic decorations.
